optimising semiconductor manufacturing with IoT and 5G
To enhance efficiency in semiconductor production, NCS collaborated with a leading high energy chip manufacturer to implement a cutting-edge IoT and video monitoring solution. Leveraging 5G connectivity, the system provides real-time insights into silicon wafer transport conditions, tracking key environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, vibration, and visual data. This solution not only improves operational oversight but also delivers measurable outcomes, including a 66% reduction in lead times, reduced manpower needs, and significant cost savings.
The challenge:
The client wanted to improve the efficiency and safety of silicon wafer transfers between manufacturing sites. By addressing this logistical bottleneck, they aimed to optimise production output and delivery quality, ensuring sustained competitiveness in the semiconductor industry.
The solution:
NCS developed an IoT and video monitoring system for Front Opening Unified Pod (FOUP) carts and delivery trucks. Real-time environmental and video data is transmitted over a 5G network, giving the client end-to-end visibility and enabling prompt response to potential disruptions during transit.
Snapshot of capabilities:
- IoT integration
- Video analytics
- 5G connectivity
The impact:
This innovative solution safeguarded silicon wafers during transit while delivering measurable improvements. Over three years, the client achieved significant cost savings, streamlined manpower requirements, and enhanced operational efficiency with a 66% reduction in lead times. The results reinforced their reputation for delivering high-quality semiconductor products through cutting-edge manufacturing processes.
